- Education is highly valued in the Oromo culture, which promotes the idea of "Gadaa" system, an indigenous democratic system in Oromo society, which is passed on through formal education and reaffirmed through community events.

- The Oromo language has its own unique script called the "Qubee", which was introduced in 1991. Before then, Oromo children were taught using the Latin alphabet or Arabic script.

- Formal education in Oromia began during the 19th century, with the establishment of schools run by missionaries. Today, the Oromo language is taught in schools alongside English and Amharic.
